Meet Melisula

Melissa “Melisula” began her dance journey in 1998. As a waitress at Papa’s Taverna in Petaluma, California her heart was captured by greek dance, culture, and music. It wasn’t long before she found herself in a belly dance class, learning the graceful movements of the dancers on the stage where she worked. Melissa was christened “Melisula” by one of musicians in the band, who was joyed to watch her dance. She has been dancing ever since.

In 2011 Melisula, frustrated with the lack of costume options for the diverse and beautiful body types celebrated in the belly dance art picked up a needle and began to sew. She quickly made it through all the classes at her local sewing center, before she decided to enroll in a fashion design program. She graduated with a degree in fashion design and special certificates in costume construction and alterations. Her passion for dance and design has costumed dozens of dancers and troupes around the world.
